Trump administration cuts aid for children immigrating on their own

The Trump administration just cut the budget for unaccompanied minor immigrants staying in federally administered shelters. The budget cuts will affect these children’s access to legal aid and education. Without legal aid, they will be more likely to face deportation; without education, they will lag behind their peers and slow their progress in learning English. The budget cuts turn the “shelters” into a prison-like environment. Congress has the power to allocate more funding to these shelters but may not exercise this power. Read more here.
